General Information:
The Elasmobranchii and Holocephali groups together make up the Chondrichthyes. Their main physical description is that they have a cartilaginous skeletal structure that is hardened through a process called Calcification. This process is when various salts and minerals grow into the growing cartilage. Another description that separates them from other fish is that, their teeth are embedded in their gums instead of having them attached to their jaws. This is what causes sharks and rays to replace teeth constantly. The Chondrichthyes also have a very flexible body and you may wonder why. The reason they are so flexible is that their vertebral column is made of vertebrae that are linked by connective tissue. Another identifying attribute is that they do not have ribs. These Cartilaginous also tend to grow at a slow rate and live for a long time. These Chondrichthyans have been living fot a very long time and have had or aquired the attributes needed to become this long survivor till present day.
