Ecological Niche:
The role of the chondrichthyes are very important although it may not seem like it. Chondrichthyes are usually at the top of the food chain and are apex predators, not including humans. Occupying this role of being a top predator is important and is a responsibility. Chondrichthyes are basically responsible for eating and predating on animals so there won't be any over populating of one species. In other words, sharks help keep the environment stable. The absence of the chindrichthyes in an ecosystem would be devastating. The whole food web or food chain would be disrupted because the apex predators are being taken out of the situation. If the chondrichthyes are completely removed the population of the animals they would usually hunt would increase dramatically because the depletion of predators. The population of that animal would increase so much that eventually they would take up all the recources and food that they will start to die of as well. This will keep on occuring like a cycle. This cycle is showing how unstable the ecosystem has become due to the removal of the chondrichthyes. Not all the roles of the species in the chondrichthyes category is the same. Obviously a great white shark would have a different niche as a chondrichthyes that is not an apex predator. Most are predators but not all, therefore the niche of different species that are chondrichthyes may vary a little or a lot.
