What is R or K slecected?:
You may we have never heard about these terms, R or K selection but it is a way of life and we see examples of this all the time. For example how fish have a lot of offspring and don't take care of them a lot of time, they just allow them to live a free life. While K selective is where there are only a few offspring but they are taken care of for a while until they are capable of surviving on their own. The R selective style of life is known for having a lot of "cheap" offspring. This is because the little amount of care the offspring get, causes their life expectancy to be lower than offspring from a K slective style of life. On the other hand, K selective allows the organisms to have a longer life expectancy due to their good amount of care that they get when their young. Another difference between the two life styles is that R selected species are usually small physically and reach their sexual maturity in an early age while K selective species are bigger and usually don't reach maturity after a long time of parental care. These two different ways of life are believed to have helped their species to survive and that is why they have adapted or become part of this way of life.

Chondrichthyes Selection and effects:
Chondrichthyes such as sharks mostly fall under the K selective form or life and their characteristics in history. Some of thesed characteristics include attaining sexual maturity at an older age. Their slow growth and long life span also are characteristics of this K-selective lifestyle. Although they have this lifestyle a negative effect is that they are more exposed to over-fishing. Being a K-selective species they dont have much offspring and take a long time of their life to become sexually mature to have offspring, causes fishing of Chondrichthyes dangerous for the population. If a large portion of the shark population is being fish for human purposes, the population will decrease greatly and the process for the population to become steady again will be difficult and take a very long time. Many species under the category Chondrichthyes are already endangered and this lifestyle is dangerous for the overall population of the species.
